About 800 stores offer first-class quality, good advice and a rich selection.
Salzburg is a very expensive city - in many ways the most expensive city in Austria. Therefore, it may surprise you that Salzburg is also a shopping metropolis. The two together give the city an importance as a marketplace for luxury goods that goes far beyond the borders of Austria. We will give you a few shopping opportunities as well as useful hints and tips in the following text.
Shopping in the old town
The Getreidegasse can be found in almost every travel guide as the central shopping mile in Salzburg's old town. High fashion, glittering jewelers and traditional costume designers give this alley its reputation. In the old town, it is worth leaving the beaten path to discover the small stores and treasures that are often inconspicuous from the outside. Stores bursting with creativity - in every imaginable variation. Small stores run by individualists who interpret the traditional in a modern way and tell a story with their assortment - the story of the old town.
Many craft businesses have almost become landmarks because of their long tradition, such as the 600-year-old Wieber locksmith's shop in Getreidegasse or the St. Peter's Abbey bakery. No matter how many centuries old: preserving the old is a matter close to the heart of the city of Salzburg, where you will find stores such as: Bäckerei Holztrattner as well as Bäkerei Ursprunger, Altstadt-Confiserie and Confiserie Josef Holzermayr, Buchhandlung Höllrigl GmbH, well-known cafés such as Mozart, Bazar and Tomaselli, countless craftsmen, drugstores and pharmacies.
Shopping in the Linzergasse
The Linzergasse on the right side of Salzburg's Old Town enchants with numerous small boutiques and stores that can be explored at leisure during a leisurely shopping spree. Old signs hang from the listed facades of this charming alley, where a mix of well-known national and international brands have taken up residence alongside traditional arts and crafts businesses. One of the hottest shopping tips in Salzburg's Linzergasse is undoubtedly Via Venty. This charming boutique is all about creative women's fashion between classic and modern. Why not also visit the goldsmith workshops Kühberger and Baischer and the jeweler Nadler. Here, individual jewelry is made according to old craftsmanship.
Shopping centers & shopping in the periphery
Salzburg's smaller shopping centers include the Zentrum im Berg (ZIB) in the Schallmoos district, the Forum near the main train station, the Kiesel Passage about halfway between the train station and the city center, the Herrnau center south of the old town and the Alpenstraße shopping center.
The largest shopping center in Salzburg is also one of the largest in Austria: Europark. Here you will find about 130 stores with huge sales areas, modern infrastructure and good public transport connections. IKEA is also located right next to the Europark.
